The Big 10 Season 2 #2 - Laurabxth

We're overjoyed to share another TB10 interview with you guys (sorry it's been so long), and we're even happier that it's with a member of the ARMS community that we have the utmost respect for. Laura has been streaming ARMS and setting up tournaments for a while now and is, in our opinion, one of the key members of the UK ARMS scene. So stop what you're doing grab yourself a cup of tea and give this interview a read! As always you can find the interview after the page break:

Question 1

APC: Please tell the community a little bit about yourself.

L: My name is Laura Elizabeth, I’m from Central England, and I’m a variety Twitch streamer, primarily streaming Nintendo Switch games.

Question 2

APC: What drew you to ARMS in the beginning?

L: A friend of mine was excited about the release which drew my interest enough to watch the trailer, in the beginning, I thought it looked super strange and didn’t think it was for me! Though, upon playing the Global Test Punch my mind was totally changed!

Question 3

APC: Out of all the new features added to ARMS post-launch which one do you like the most?

L: The most exciting thing is always the addition of new ARMS and characters of course, but from an overall standpoint, I’d say the replays are the most useful feature that’s been added.

Question 4

APC: Competitive games like ARMS can be both mentally and emotionally taxing, how do you go about overcoming frustrations and challenges so that you can get your head back in the game again?

L: Simple really.. just take a break. When you’re playing ranked matches for a long time it can take its toll, especially if you’re facing higher ranks and losing game after game. It becomes disheartening. But at the end of the day, it IS just a game and you have to take it with a pinch of salt. The easiest thing to do is just acknowledge that you’re feeling burnt out, and take a break from the game.. or play some casuals with friends!

Question 5

APC: What attracted you to your current main and why did you stick with them?

L: I played Min Min from the very beginning, I always steer towards female characters in any game and her design is AMAZING. Her movement is excellent and allows me to play footsies and dodge around 70-80% of attacks. After playing the game for as long as I have I’ve become skilled enough to pick up Twintelle, who is now my strong secondary, and I switch between these characters frequently, usually using Twintelle against heavies.

Question 6

APC: What is your favourite stage and why?

L: From a design point of view, I’d say my favourite is probably Via Dolce, I think the stage is so aesthetically pleasing and vibrant, and the music is the best in the game next to NAME REDACTED, but I also really enjoy Ramen Bowl and DNA Lab.

Question 7

APC: What is your current arm load-out and why did you choose it?

L: My current ARM load-out for Min Min is Ram Ram, Lokjaw, and Ice Dragon. Funnily enough I was just messing around with the Ice Dragon as my Twitch Header is an image of Min Min with the Ice Dragon and I thought “hey, maybe I should actually use at least one of these ARMS represented on my channel” having not ever used either of the Dragon ARMS in the past, I surprisingly loved it and have kept it ever since. The Ram Ram has been a solid, reliable ARM for me since launch, especially on Min Min’s left dragon arm. It’s great for applying pressure and is an ARM I always keep in my rotation no matter what. The Lokjaw is a new addition, I’ve switched between using the Funchuk, Clapback, and Bubb, before settling on this ARM in my usual rotation, I enjoy the safety it gives me against heavy ARMS, but I do switch it out from time to time.

My current ARM load-out for Twintelle is Tri-blast, Ram Ram, and Thunderbird. I’m not very skilled with gloves, especially with Twintelle, and I found the Parasol to be quite useless, but the Thunderbird is AMAZING against heavy characters; that and the Ram Ram are the most useful against players using Master Mummy and Mechanica, and I’ve found that double Thunderbird (a classic Twintelle set) is probably my most reliable defense against players using Max Brass. The Tri-blast is an ARM I switch out a lot and I’m still experimenting with different ARMS but I keep it there as a cautionary against players using Dr Coyle, as right now, it seems as though it’s the only ARM that can take her down.

Question 8

APC: What advice would you give to other players who main your character?

L: For players using Min Min, I’d say learn to play footsies. It’s the most advantageous thing about this character, the movement is incredible and if you can learn to dodge almost every attack coming your way, you’ll find a lot more openings of your own, and as an added note, I’d advise people to be careful about finding opportunities to power up Min Min’s left dragon arm. It’s very important to have, but not worth the vulnerability.

For players using Twintelle, I’d advise people to really put the time in with this character. She’s very high tier but she’s not invincible. People can find a way around the constant use of the Actress Aura and the punishes will be REAL. Work on spacing and keep a sharp eye about the way your opponent is moving, use lots of mix-ups and figure out whether your opponent is someone you want to distance yourself from or apply a lot of pressure too.

Question 9

APC: With so many different fighting games on the market what is it about ARMS that keeps you coming back?

L: The best thing about ARMS is the customisation. When it comes to classic fighters, you have 2 options: character and combos. Whereas in ARMS, there’s a lot to take into consideration: character, abilities, ARMS, ARM weight, ARM elements etc. Each opponent you come up against will have a different load-out and a different play style, it’s almost impossible to predict movement unless you’ve had experience with your opponent. This doesn’t take anything away from traditional fighting games, but there’s a reason we love this game and if the gameplay wasn’t enough to make me want to continue playing, it’s the community. I’ve never known a community to be more supportive and involved. It’s an utter and complete joy to be a part of.

Question 10

APC: Where can people find more about you?
